GLEN HANSARD
KILLYLEAGH CASTLE

In the week that the Frames live album goes straight to the top of the Irish charts, the band's singer Glen Hansard walks onto the stage at Killyleagh, smiles the biggest smile and then apologises in advance for his next action.
Rather cheekily, he's decided to start with a Van Morrison song. Not any Van song either. He's going for 'Astral Weeks', that classic from 1969, which he presents as a fierce and crackling journey into memory, place and time. And by the end of it, we’re roaring and applauding his style. Like, Glen says, Van is hardly going to do it anyway.
He sings his own tune 'Lay Me Down', which is well received. He tells us a hilarious account of his big Van meeting, which ended with the pair of them alone, in the small hours, with Morrison singing all his fave tunes and Glen feeling very awed.
Other Frames tunes like 'Angel At My Table' and 'Revelate', go roaring into the late afternoon. 'Star Star' blends into the Mic Christopher tune 'Hey Day' and just before he takes his leave, Glen introduces 'The Blood' and asks for some help on the harmonies. On another occasion, the Glen fans would happily oblige, but Killyleagh's older, more gentrified crowd is holding back a little. Their loss.
